In early 2025, I tried to vibe-code my explain ideas visually landing page because I wanted to cancel my Framer subscription and build a website from scratch instead of using a website builder.

I'm not a developer. Code still looks like a maze to me. But a friend who was a few steps ahead showed me how he would approach it. Thanks, Tomas!

Now, a bit over a year later, my frame of what's possible is completely broken. I run my entire business off one server I own, and I talk to it in plain English, the way you'd talk to a co-founder. I named him Bozo. He manages my knowledge base, finances, content, websites, and a pile of automations behind-the-scenes.

Here's one concrete example of what that gives me:

When a sale lands, I get a Slack message with the whole story. Who bought and what. My website analytics show me exactly where they came from: google, socials, affiliates, something else. It also checks my Kit email platform and tells me if they're a long-time subscriber who reads my newsletters.

In the background, that sale files itself into my income database. It updates my reports, works out the estimated tax, and bumps the live counter on my landing page that shows how many people have joined my course.

Minutes later, the buyer fills in a short welcome pop-up on my custom platform explaining why they joined and what their goals are. It lands in my Slack and I type or record a reply, and it reaches their inbox.

Everything is automated, filed, and served to me exactly how I want. So I can do the only thing I don't want to automate: type or record a personalized answer to a new student who just trusted me with their money.

It's a small part of what I've built, with plenty more on the way. It quietly gives me back hours every day, and I spend them on the work only I can do.

What is the Custom Creator System?

It's two things. A short course, and a growing vault.

While it makes sense to pay for and use a lot of software out there, some tools are worth creating yourself.

Not because you can save a few bucks (though it's nice). But because every tool you rent has the same three problems:

1. It's missing a feature you would love to have.
2. It's cluttered with ten things you don't need.
3. It's isolated from your other tools and data.

Own it.

The more you build inside someone else's walls, the harder it is to get out.

When you build your own, you're in control. I can move my system anywhere, power it with any AI I choose, and change the smallest details, usually with a few quick prompts.

Here's some of what I've canceled and built my own version of:

• Framer (website builder)
• Fathom (website analytics)
• Wispr Flow (voice-to-text)
• Grammarly (proofreading)
• Publer (social media scheduler)
• Zapier (tons of automations)

This doesn't mean I stopped paying for software. I still rent plenty, and it powers parts of my system. But I own the foundation, so anything I rent is more of an add-on than something I depend on. When a tool is genuinely too complex to build myself, or the payoff just isn't there, I plug it in. Either way, I stay in control.

Is this to save money?

Not really. In the long run you can absolutely save money by building your own software and systems, but that is not the goal, especially early on.

And to be clear, it still costs money. The servers we host this on and the best AI coding tools (the ones with the strongest coding ability) are not free. So this is not about going cheap. It is about building a system you actually own.
